The Next Step is to ---

--- take the information from the Primary Chip and feed it to a Search Engine
(I still like Yahoo).

OK -- Let's examing the Numbers on The Primary Chip

CLICK HERE to Enlarge --- This is the Large or Big Chip

11229-13

and

9827 B61547.9

In this case we simply typed in the Number
11229-13
in the "SEARCH" Window (hit ENTER) and ...

What do we get from a Yahoo Search ? --

2.-- Modem Chipsets - Index to all Chipsets - ... [PCI twin-chip] 11229-13: [PCI twin-chip] 11229-14: ... [PCI twin-chip] 11235-14: Conexant HCF 56K. [USB twin-chip] 11247-11: Conexant HCF 56K. ... http://www.modem-help.co.uk/chips/ Search within this site

From the very second listed item we get a wealth of information about the Modem and most importantly is that the First Number from the "Primary Chip" hit pay dirt.

Even tho everything is coming up roses their is still a lot of work to be done -- we have found a ton of valuable information but we still haven't found the "Driver".

Remember
your objective is to find the Device Driver not "Chip Set" information per-say.
OK -- Now we begin to plug in different "Key Phrases"

IMPORTANT RULE of thumb --
If a site gets very technical about "Chip Sets" (and believe me Chip Sets can get enormously Technical) look around a bit and then quickly move on

CLICK HERE to Enlarge --- This is the Smaller or Little Chip

OK -- lets continue --
The rest of the listings from the "Search Term" 11229-13
did not seem to have any information relating to drivers

so -- I will take a slightly different approach to my search and use some of the info from the Web Sites as they come up.

So now we simply look for key words and phrases to use in a search.

The
"Search Terms"
I used
where as follow:

1. 11229-13

2. PCI twin-chip 11229-13

3. HCF 56k V90 FaxModem Driver

4. Driver for HCF 56k V90 FaxModem

5. Modem Device Drivers

6. Device Driver

7. Conexant HCF 56K PCI

CLICK on each PICTURE
and it will Enlarge --

You can CLICK on most UNDERLINED words
and they will Open something !!

(VERY IMPORTANT !!!)
Also Run your Mouse over every PICTURE
and HOLD IT THERE (for a second or two)
and a MESSAGE will come up with
MORE INFORMATION

about that particular Component shown !!!

If the INFORMATION goes away before you finish reading it

simply remove your mouse and put it back on the OBJECT (picture, animation or whatever) and it will come BACK again !!

----------------------

On close observation you will notice that almost all of my Search Terms are gleaned so to speak from information the websites the search term before it brought up. ---

Other traditional methods are to: ---

1. Locate and research the FCC ID number -- this is the longest, slowest and most tedious way to go but does yeild some useful information or ---

2.
using the "Model Number" and ---

3. the "Board Revision Number" but Numbers 2 and 3 (in my humble opinion) are only useful within their own "Personal Domains"

in other words these numbers have no "universal meaning" only a "propriatary meaning".
